Overview
One of the best SUVs
The 2007 Chevrolet Equinox is a mid-size crossover SUV manufactured by General Motors. Based on the GM Theta platform, the Equinox was introduced in 2004 for the 2005 model year.

It is available in four models: 1LS, 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT. All are available in a standard front-wheel drive (FWD) and an optional all-wheel drive (AWD) layout.

For 2007, the Equinox has received a lot of upgrades. It now comes with redesigned bumpers and a new spoiler. The antenna is now positioned on the rear of the roof instead of the right front fender. The Equinox is also available in three new exterior colors: Granite Gray Metallic, Deep Ruby Metallic, and Silverstone Metallic.

It comes with a new vehicle limited warranty for three years or 36,000 miles and a powertrain warranty for five years or 100,000 miles.

The Equinox competes with the likes of Acura TL, Infiniti M, Lexus ES 350, Cadillac CTS, Infiniti G35, and Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

Engine and Performance
3.4L V6 – full of power
With four models and two drivelines, the Equinox comes with a single but powerful engine. All its models derive power from a standard 3.4-liter V6 engine, which churns out 185 hp @ 5,200 rpm and 210 lb-ft. of toque @ 3,800 rpm.

The engine is linked to a standard 5-speed automatic transmission with Adaptive Learning Capability. This transmission selects various shift schedules for smooth, consistent shifting, depending on the driving conditions and load demands.

Walk-around
A blend of beauty and style
The Equinox looks athletic, stylish, and sexy. It measures 188.8 inches in length and rides on a long wheelbase of 112.5 inches. Its front fascia is adorned by body-color bumpers, a large distinct grille, Charcoal lower molding, composite halogen headlamps, and Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) with Automatic Exterior Lamp Control. Fog lamps are standard on the 2LT and 3LT models.

At the sides, all models of the Equinox bear body-color body-side moldings. The 1LS models feature black door handles, while the other models come with body-color door handles, which give to it an integrated appearance.

The rear of the Equinox also looks equally classy with body-color rear fascia with Charcoal lower molding. Also standard are a lift-gate with fixed glass, an integrated roof-mounted spoiler, and clear-lens tail-lamps.

The Equinox also features standard power manual-folding mirrors. Deep-tinted glass is limited to the LT models. Roof rack side rails are standard on all models. These integrated roof rails gel well with the neat and clean styling of Equinox and help to prevent water and snow from getting inside the vehicle, when the door is opened or the window is rolled down. The LT models are also available with the option of roof rack crossbars.

The 1LS and 1LT wear standard 16-inch, cast-aluminum wheels and all-season, Blackwall P235/65R16 tires, though the option of all-season, Blackwall P235/60R17 tires is also available. A Driver Information Center (DIC) also comes standard on all trims. It continuously monitors and reports about numerous vehicle functions such as oil life, tire pressure, and locking/unlocking preferences. The DIC also informs you about the average vehicle speed and fuel economy, the fuel used, fuel range, battery voltage status, lighting delay, and locking delay.

The 1LS and 1LT feature a manual day/night rear-view mirror, while the 2LT and 3LT come with an auto-dimming rear-view mirror with an eight-point compass. All trims come standard with 12-volt, auxiliary power outlets and cup holders. A power sunroof, which can be tilted or slid, is available as optional on the LT models. For entertainment, the 1LS comes with an AM/FM stereo with CD player and auxiliary iPod/MP3 input jack. All LT models feature a standard AM/FM stereo with CD/MP3 player and auxiliary iPod/MP3 input jack, which is optional on the 1LS trim. Driving Impressions
You’d love to be in the driver’s seat
The Equinox features a standard FWD layout, but is also available with the option of an AWD, which provides added confidence in rainy, snowy, icy, and muddy conditions. The AWD is automatically activated when front-wheel slippage is detected.

Power to all trims is supplied by a 3.4L V6 engine, which produces 185 hp at 5,200 rpm and 210 lb.-ft. of torque at 3800 rpm. It is teamed with a 5-speed automatic transmission for smooth shifting and acceleration. The transmission also features an Adaptive Learning Capability and can select various shift schedules for smooth, consistent shifting on the basis of load demands and driving conditions.

The Equinox is maneuvered by a variable-assist, electric power steering (EPS), which offers optimum control and responsiveness. It rides on independent front and rear suspension. The front suspension includes a gas-pressurized McPherson strut with a coil-spring design for responsive handling and a smooth ride. A four-link independent rear suspension with a coil-spring design includes a trailing arm with three lateral locating links and tuned bushings, which optimize the Equinox’s stability and reduce the road noise inside its cabin.

Four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes are standard on all trims. These brakes prevent locking of wheels during hard braking on slippery surfaces and help in maintaining steering control.

StabiliTrak, an electronic stability control system, is also standard on all trims. It improves vehicle stability, particularly during emergency maneuvers.

Also standard is a Traction Control system, which uses wheel-speed sensors to automatically detect front wheel slippage and reduce the engine torque via the electronic throttle control. This limits wheel spin on slick surfaces. All trims also feature cruise control for limiting the speed to safe standards.

Safety
Five-star safety for all
The Equinox has earned a five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of the U.S. for frontal and side-impact crash tests. It also comes with plenty of features to ensure the safety of its occupants.

It comes with a safety cage, which is reinforced with single-piece frames that support door openings, the roof, and steel door beams. This combination helps resist side-impact intrusion, and also helps absorb crash energy in a controlled manner. It also helps preserve the occupant’s space.

The Equinox comes with dual-stage, frontal airbags for the driver and right-front passenger. The 3LT comes standard with head-curtain side-impact airbags, which are available as optional on the other trims. The Passenger Sensing System, standard on all trims, automatically switches the right-front passenger front air bag on or off based on the passenger’s weight and the type of pressure on the seat.

All trims also come standard with a LATCH (Lower Anchors and Top tethers for Children) system for child safety seats, an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), traction control, PASSlock theft-deterrent system, tire pressure monitor, and remote keyless entry, which includes two transmitters, transmitter-mounted panic button, content theft alarm, activation verification, and illuminated entry.
