| Driving Impressions |
|
| You’ll be impressed by its driving dynamics |
|
| The Silverado 2500HD is offered in 2WD and 4WD configurations. The 4WD system offers the benefit of enhanced traction and greater stability. It delivers power to the front wheels during normal driving on dry road surfaces and to all four wheels on slippery terrains.
The Vortec 6.0L V-8 engine produces a maximum power of 353 hp. It features variable valve timing (VVT) technology that optimizes combustion, enhances low-end torque and high-end power, promotes efficiency, and reduces emissions. It also offers the benefit of an electronic throttle control that provides outstanding throttle response, greater reliability, and improved efficiency. The Duramax diesel 6.6L V-8 engine churns out 365 hp of maximum power. Fuel is delivered to this engine through a Common Rail Direct Injection technology, which utilizes advanced electronics and pilots injection to optimize fuel delivery and help reduce emissions and combustion noise.
The Hydra-Matic 6-speed automatic transmission with overdrive, Tap-Up/Tap-Down driver shift control, auto grade-braking, and Tow/Haul mode helps deliver high-performance capabilities. A GM heavy-duty truck-exclusive Tap-Up/Tap-Down driver shift control feature on the gear shift lever allows the driver to manually select upshifts and downshifts. Also, a new sophisticated control module monitors the transmission to optimize shift quality and ensure consistently smooth performance. The Allison 1000 Series 6-speed automatic transmission with overdrive, Tap-Up/Tap-Down driver shift control, auto grade-braking, and Tow/Haul mode features shift stabilization, which helps reduce shift busyness while driving on mountainous terrain.
The Silverado 2500HD rides on Z85 Handling/Trailering suspension. All models except the WT are also available with the optional Z71 Off-Road Package suspension. Both the suspension systems are well-tuned to absorb the impact of jerks and uneven roads, thereby offering a smooth ride.
The 2500HD comes equipped with front and rear disc brakes with a four-wheel anti-lock braking system (ABS) and dynamic rear proportioning, a feature which optimizes braking performance under varying cargo load conditions. The LTZ comes standard with automatic locking rear differential, which is optional on other models. When rear-wheel slippage is detected, the automatic locking rear differential allows additional traction to the rear wheels. If one of the rear wheels has traction while the other does not, the locking rear axle automatically sends power to the wheel with grip to move the vehicle.
The 2500HD comes with a high ground clearance of 9.5 inches, which braces it up to take on challenging terrains with élan. However, a large turning diameter of 45.3 to 55.1 feet makes it a little difficult to be steered or parked in tight spots.

OnStar is an in-vehicle safety and security system created to help protect the occupants of a vehicle in emergency situations on the road. OnStar's innovative three-button system offers 24-hour access to expertly trained and caring advisors, a connection to emergency assistance, and access to OnStar hands-free calling.
