| Overview |
|
| A full-size SUV/wagon |
|
| The 2007 Chevrolet Suburban is a full-size sports utility vehicle (SUV)/station-wagon from the Chevrolet division of General Motors. Introduced in 1935, the Suburban is one of the oldest automobiles in the United States.
The Suburban comes with a full pickup truck frame, a V-8 engine, and three rows of bench seats. It is available in five models: Half-Ton LS, Half-Ton LT, Half-Ton LTZ, Three-Quarter-Ton LS, and Three-Quarter-Ton LT.
The Half-Ton LS and Three-Quarter-Ton LS is offered in a single trim-level: LS, while the Half-Ton LT and Three-Quarter-Ton LT are offered in three trim levels each: LT1, LT2, and LT3. The Half-Ton LTZ is also offered in a single trim-level: LTZ. All trims are offered in 2-wheel drive (2WD) and 4-wheel drive (4WD) configurations and can seat up to nine passengers.
For 2007, the Chevrolet Suburban has been completely revamped. Changes are evident in the improved quality of interior materials, a sleek and slicker exterior design, a responsive and precise steering, and enhanced power. Fuel economy has also improved. A touch-screen navigation system and a new noise-reducing technology are just some of the upgrades the Suburban has received for 2007.
It is covered by a new vehicle limited warranty for three years or 36,000 miles and a powertrain warranty for five years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. It competes with the likes of the Toyota Land Cruiser, Hummer H2, Jeep Commander, Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon XL, Ford Expedition, Nissan Armada, and Toyota Sequoia.

| Driving Impressions |
|
| Delivers a smooth ride |
|
| The Suburban derives power from either a 5.3L V-8 engine, which produces 310-320 horsepower or a 6.0L V-8 engine, which gives 352-366 horsepower. Both the engines are powerful, efficient and deliver a good performance. The 4-speed automatic transmission features an input speed sensor and a transmission control module that optimizes shift quality based on driver input.
The Suburban is steered by a power steering. However, the three-quarter-ton models have a recirculating ball steering, while the half-ton models come with a rack-and-pinion steering. All steering options are nimble, light, and hugely responsive.
All half-ton models excluding the LTZ ride on a Premium Smooth Ride suspension, which includes a front suspension that has a coil-over-shock design with a stabilizer bar and a rear suspension that follows a multilink design with coil springs. The three-quarter-ton models excluding LTZ come with a Heavy-Duty Ride/Handling suspension, which includes front independent design with torsion bars and rear multistage leaf springs. The LTZ is equipped with an Autoride suspension, which automatically varies the amount of shock damping rate on a continual 20-millisecond basis by monitoring road surface, speed, gas and brake pedals, steering angle, and wheel height conditions to maximize handling and comfort. Also, a rear self-leveling feature helps maintain the rear suspension level with the front during heavy trailering or fully loaded conditions.
The LT2 and LT3 are available with the option of a Z71 Off-Road suspension, which is designed for both on-road and off-road driving. This rugged suspension includes specially tuned 46 mm gas-charged shock absorbers and off-road rubber jounce bumpers that work in conjunction to help minimize large suspension inputs. When rear-wheel slippage is detected at lower speeds, the locking differential mechanism locks the rear axle, sending maximum drive power to both rear wheels.
The half-ton models feature four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, while all three-quarter-ton models excluding the LTZ come with four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with hydro-boost. These brakes offer forceful stopping power to the wheels and bring the Suburban to a smooth, quick halt. Standard on LTZ and optional on the other models is an automatic locking rear differential, which evenly distributes power to both rear wheels in less-than-ideal traction conditions.
All half-ton models also come equipped with StabiliTrak, an electronic stability control system that is equipped with proactive roll avoidance. The StabiliTrak control module compares the steering input with the truck’s actual response and then, if necessary, makes small, individual brake applications to enhance control and keep the vehicle on track. It improves vehicle stability, particularly during emergency maneuvers.
With a ground clearance of 10.5 inches, the Suburban can take on uneven, rugged terrains quite easily.

| Safety |
|
| Loaded with safety features |
|
| The Suburban has been built on a reinforced steel safety cage, which demonstrates an excellent balance between mass, noise, and vibration, crash-worthiness, and corrosion. It has earned a five-star rating, the highest possible, for frontal crash tests by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
All models of the Suburban come standard with three-point safety belts in all seating positions, except center of the first row in LS. The Suburban comes standard with dual-stage, frontal airbags for the driver and right-front passenger, including a passenger sensing system, which automatically switches the right-front passenger airbag on or off on the basis of the passenger's weight and the type of pressure on the seat. The LT3 and LTZ come standard with head-curtain side airbags for all rows, with rollover sensor, which are optional on the other models.
All models come standard with safety features such as a LATCH (Lower Anchors and Top tethers for Children) system for child safety seats, outboard head restraints in all rows, child security rear door locks, a remote keyless entry including power door locks, a transmitter-mounted panic button, and a content theft alarm, a PASSkey III theft-deterrent system, and an OnStar system with a one-year safe & sound plan. OnStar is an in-vehicle safety and security system created to help protect the occupants of a vehicle on the road. OnStar's innovative three-button system offers 24-hour access to expertly trained and caring advisors, a connection to emergency assistance, and access to OnStar hands-free calling.
